Coffee Roastery at Hamburg Harbour
Our Roastery
In our roastery at Sandtorkai in Hamburg, we roast coffee in small batches. Each batch is created with care and time – green coffee becomes roasted coffee, developing its aroma. The view of the harbour is simply part of it.
How we roast
Roasting is the step where coffee develops its aroma. We do not roast by rote, but pay attention to each individual coffee: colour, aroma and sound change during roasting, and in the end we decide when the right moment has come.
- We check the green coffee before it goes into roasting.
- We monitor the roasting process and evaluate it by colour, aroma and sound.
- After roasting, the coffee rests before it goes to market.
Our Roasting Machine
At the heart of the roastery is our roasting machine. In its drum, the coffee is heated evenly and kept in motion so that every bean is roasted uniformly. The machine is the centrepiece of our craft – we work directly with it and do every roast by hand.
Small Batches
We roast in small batches. This way we keep an eye on each individual roast and can cater to the specific coffee. Small quantities also mean that the coffee arrives freshly roasted to you.
Quality and Craftsmanship
Good coffee is craftsmanship. We take our time with each batch, rely on our senses and work with the same care on every roast. For us, quality comes from attention to detail – not from haste.
